Power in the Making

One of man’s greatest innovations is the production of electrical power. Where it not for this source of energy we would not have achieved the technology that we now have today. Gas,coal and oil are the biggest source of electricity as it’s abundantly found in many countries around the globe.  More recently nuclear energy, water, and wind have been exploited as a source of fuel. We now examine other methods of making electricity.

One method that’s used to generate electricity is a large turbine. These require motion to make power and there are many of ways that this can be done.

The turbine is turned by the steam that’s produced by the burning of coal, gas or petroleum. This is done by using enourmous furnaces that heat large amounts of water thereby producing vapour in the form of steam. Obviously it’s the fossil fuels that areused to heat the water. The quantity of pollution that this brings is damaging to the environment as large quantities of carbon dioxide is let out in to the atmosphere.

Another means that can be harnessed to power the turbines is water. Flowing water is diverted to a main pool known as a dam. Electricity is then made when the water from the dam rotates the blades that powers the generator. The atmosphere is not polluted as much by using this system as toxic waste is eliminated. This does have however, damaging effects to the ecosystem of the reservoir body.

Renewable Wind And Solar Sources Guide Online

by Cherry Smith

Proponents of renewable energy are always challenged on its practicality. The fact is we’re past that as it has become rather an issue of necessity. As our environment bleeds away at an alarming rate from the effects of runaway waste levels from conventional energy, alternative sources of power must be deployed urgently. The obvious solution is renewable energy such as wind, water and sunlight.

The situation is getting increasingly compelling by the day. Given the pollution, political conflict and high prices of oil and gas not to mention the sensitivities of the troublesome nuclear power, few will argue with renewable energy nowadays. It’s within reach of a great many of us in the United States. A simple solar system here and a homemade wind generator there and pretty soon, the entire neighborhood will join the green movement as more and more people experience the benefits of renewable energy first-hand.

Adopting solar power benefits the environment while doing the user a big favor too. This is because it’s green, renewable and cost much less financially in the long run. The fuel is sunlight which is free or charge and everlasting. Once installed, it’s virtually maintenance free. Nowadays, photovoltaic shingles are fancy enough to actually be an aesthetic feature of the home. Also, they are eligible for government grants and incentives in many states.

Wind power is another popular form of alternative energy. Also environmentally friendly, renewable and with free flow of fuel from nature, it’s obviously for windy settings especially in regions of geographically lesser sunlight. The space and regulatory requirements are typically more stringent than its solar counterpart. Unlike the solar panels which are easily integrated into the existing structure, wind towers occupy significant space. They can also emit some noise.

Your Own Home Solar System

by Tom Francis

With energy supplies dwindling fast and the onset of global warming, its no wonder that people are looking to renewable energies for reducing their carbon footprint.

But if the money is not available, it doesn’t matter how environmentally-aware you are. It’s the one thing that has prevented many well-meaning householders from acting

If you want to get a home solar power system installed professionally, the cost could run into thousands, so your best bet is to do it yourself.

You could actually build your own solar panel, and it would provide you with electricity, but only in a small measure, for instance ,to power a small lamp. If you want to power your home completely by solar power, you would need to get a solar power kit.

Such a solar power kit has everything that you would need to build a working home solar power system. If you have a modicum of DIY ability, you would be able to build it.

And these kits are not hard to find. Large electricity supply companies like GE are now producing these kits, in response to the great demand. If you decide to get your own solar panel kit, you will save a lot of money.

The kit instructions are easy to follow. It would not be difficult for a child to follow. Speaking of which, if you have children, why not get them involved in the build? They will learn a lot from it.

Getting the solar panel unit operating, and having it provide your power needs, must be one of the most rewarding things you could do. It’s just great to have your energy needs met by the sun!
