How To Build a DIY Wind Turbine

How To Build a DIY Wind Turbine

Sometimes, conserving electricity can be quite difficult especially if you really need to use the various devices in your home. But the only downside of ignoring the problem is the increased electricity bills that can further affect your budgeting of other needs.

If you can’t do much to reduce your home’s overall power usage, then you can take a different approach: using alternative sources of energy rather than paying for electrical power drawn from a utility company. Solar energy is good, but it is expensive to purchase the necessary supplies. However, you can set up and start using wind power for a much lower cost – you can even build your own wind turbine.

Building a DIY wind turbine isn’t terribly difficult and can be done very quickly once you have all of the needed supplies. Especially if you live in a suburban or rural setting, you can save quite a bit on energy; if you have the room, you can build multiple turbines. Of course, even if you live in a large city, wind power can still be an option as long as you have the space to build one.

A wind turbine has three parts. There are rotors, a tower or other support to hold the rotors and of course a battery or batteries to store the electrical energy generated by your turbine. Depending on your particular setup, you may also need a transformer – if you plan to feed the energy your turbine generates directly into your home, this is an important piece of equipment.

You can find these parts easily at local scrap yards or online. These parts are generally very inexpensive and you shouldn’t have any trouble finding these; eBay is an excellent source for parts.

Building a DIY wind turbine is one of the simpler projects out there. Even if you aren’t a fan of working on machinery, just think of all the money your wind turbine will save you; besides, it can be fun to build a wind turbine and the savings will more than compensate you for your time and expense.

There are many excellent guides on building your own wind turbine online which can help walk you through the process. Some of these guides are from sites which will charge you a small fee for them; make sure that the site has a good reputation before paying for a guide. There are free guides out there as well, but a professionally written, easy to follow guide is often worth paying a little for.

There are free sources which even include video of the wind turbine building process; these make it easy to build your own. After you’ve watched a few videos and reading a few guides, you’ll be well prepared to build your wind turbines and start saving on electricity costs. Once you get the hand of it, you may even want to build wind turbines and sell them to others who don’t want to make their own.

Wind energy is a great resource to take advantage of because its renewable and clean. It can also be very effective if you build it right and if you have many turbines in use.
